About me

Profile

I completed a Bachelor of Psychology with honours then a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

In psychology, I am particularly interested in phenomenology - the subjective memories and self-evaluations - among adults who have experienced complex childhood trauma (i.e., physical, and emotional abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, domestic violence, etc.). For this reason, and, as an extension to my Ph.D. thesis, in my clinical work, I see mostly adults with a history of complex childhood trauma and provide trauma therapy tailored to them. Recently, I also see more adults with neurodivergent traits who have experienced complex childhood trauma. These individuals may be experiencing anxiety, depression, as well as interpersonal and identity issues in adulthood.

I would like my clients to learn and grow from their experiences by identifying where they learnt unhelpful coping and re-learn more adaptive, helpful coping. I also aim at helping my clients develop an authentic Self, or a holistic sense of Self.

Prior to Psychology, I studied English Literature and Linguistics in Japan; so my passion is still as much about literature and language as it is about psychology. For me, being a clinical psychologist is like being a reader / co-editor of my clients' personal stories. I also love Music as well as Art. Ultimately, I'm a curious person who loves learning how people express their emotions in different ways.

Publications

Present

Earlier this year, I started writing a book on the subject of how experiences and memories of complex trauma in childhood affect self-development, and how this relates to mental health. This book is a compilation of my research and clinical experiences written for the general public.

Past

While attending university and graduate school, I published academic papers to peer-reviewed journals on the themes of memory, self-evaluation, and mental health from the perspectives of clinical psychology and neuropsychology (see below).
